Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 6, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Lytt ("we," "our," or "us") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use the Lytt app (app ID me.lytt.app), visit our website, or join our waitlist. It is written with Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA), the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) in mind.
Two things worth saying up front, because they shape everything below:
- The Lytt app contains no analytics or advertising trackers. No Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no third-party SDK watching what you tap. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not sell your data.
- Lytt is a matching service, so some of your profile is meant to be seen by the members you get matched with. Section 8 sets out exactly what.
1. Who we are
LYTT is a registered Sole Proprietorship in Ontario, Canada (BIN: 1001449484). For any privacy question or request, email privacy@lytt.me.
2. What we collect
On the website and waitlist
- Your email address and the city you select, plus a code we email you to confirm the address.
- Nothing else. This site loads no trackers and sets no advertising cookies.
In the app
- Phone number. This is how you sign in and how we identify your account. We send you a one-time code by SMS.
- Profile details: your name, gender, approximate birth year, relationship status, neighbourhood, the countries you're connected to, and the topics you pick.
- Photos: a profile photo and optional additional photos, taken with your camera or chosen from your library.
- Prompt answers and, if you use the profile helper, a voice note you record. See Section 4.
- Location. See Section 5. This includes precise GPS coordinates when you check in at a plan.
- Chat messages you send in group chats. Group chat is text only.
- A device push token, if you turn on notifications.
We do not collect any financial information, your Instagram handle, your contacts, your browsing history, or any advertising identifier.
3. How we use it
- To create your account and sign you in.
- To match you into a group of compatible people and to form plans near you.
- To run the plan itself: reminders, meeting points, routes, check-in, and group chat.
- To keep the community safe, including moderation and responding to reports.
- To fix problems and improve the Service.
- To meet legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Use.
We do not use your information to advertise to you, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
4. The profile helper and AI
This section matters, so it gets its own heading.
During onboarding you can use the profile helper, which turns a spoken answer into a written profile. If you use it, the audio of your voice note is sent to Google's Gemini API, which transcribes it and drafts profile cards from the transcript. Nothing the helper drafts is published until you review and approve it.
Lytt can also generate a stylized illustrated likeness of you from your profile photo. If you use that feature, your actual profile photo is sent to Google's Gemini API so the illustration resembles you. The resulting image is stored with your profile.
These are the only features that send your content to an AI provider, both are optional, and both run only when you choose to use them. Google processes this data as a service provider under its own API terms. If you would rather not have your voice or your photo processed this way, skip the helper and the likeness and fill in your profile by hand.
Your photos and the media you upload are stored in a bucket that is publicly readable by URL. Treat anything you upload as visible to anyone who has the link.
5. Location
Lytt asks for location permission only while you're using the app. We never track you in the background.
- Setting your neighbourhood. You can drop a pin on a map or use your current location. We deliberately blur what we store: your home coordinates are rounded to roughly 110 metres, and they are never shared with other members.
- Checking in at a plan. When you tap "I'm here," we read your precise location once and store those coordinates along with your distance from the meeting point, so we can confirm you showed up. This is a single reading that you trigger, not continuous tracking.
You can decline or revoke location permission in your device settings. If you do, you'll need to set your neighbourhood by pin instead, and you won't be able to check in by GPS.
6. Payments
There are none. Lytt is free, so we never ask for a payment method and we collect no financial information at all: no card number, no billing address, no payment processor records, not even the card brand or last four digits. There is no subscription, no purchase, and no in-app balance or credit to keep records about.
If we ever introduce a paid feature, we will update this policy before it launches and tell you what changes.
7. Notifications
If you turn on notifications, we store a device push token and use Firebase Cloud Messaging, and on iPhone the Apple Push Notification service, to deliver messages about group formation, plan reminders, and chat activity. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings without affecting the rest of your account.
8. How we share it
We do not sell your personal information. We share it in four situations:
With other members
This is the point of the Service. Members matched into a group with you can see your profile: your name, photos, gender, approximate age, neighbourhood name, topics, and prompt answers, along with anything you write in the group chat. Your phone number, your email, your exact home coordinates, and your payment details are never shown to other members.
With service providers
- Supabase for our database, file storage, and authentication.
- Twilio to deliver your sign-in code by SMS.
- Google: Firebase Cloud Messaging for notifications, Google Maps for maps and for turning a map pin into a neighbourhood name, and the Gemini API for the optional features in Section 4. On Android, Google Play Services may offer to fill in your phone number and read the SMS code for you.
- Apple for push notification delivery on iPhone.
Each processes your data only as needed to provide its service.
For legal and safety reasons
When we believe it's necessary to comply with the law, enforce our Terms, or protect the rights and safety of members, of Lytt, or of the public.
In a business transfer
If Lytt is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may transfer as part of it.
9. Where your data is stored
Lytt operates in Canada, but our database and file storage are hosted by Supabase in the United States, and our other providers operate internationally. This means your personal information is stored and processed outside Canada and may be accessible to US authorities under US law.
Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
10. Legal basis (for EEA and UK members)
- Contract: to provide the Service you signed up for, including matching and plans.
- Consent: for the waitlist, notifications, location, and the optional AI features in Section 4. You can withdraw consent at any time.
- Legitimate interests: to operate, secure, and improve the Service and to keep the community safe.
- Legal obligation: to respond to lawful requests.
11. Data retention
We keep your information while your account is active and for as long as we need it to run the Service, meet legal and tax obligations, and resolve disputes. Waitlist details are kept until Lytt launches in your city or until you ask us to remove them.
When you delete your account, your profile and the media you uploaded are permanently deleted within 14 days. Section 12 sets out exactly what goes, what we keep, and why.
12. Deleting your account
You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Account → Delete my account in the app, or by requesting it at lytt.me/delete-account without needing the app at all. We'd rather tell you plainly what that does than imply more than it delivers.
- Straight away: your account closes and you disappear from Lytt. Other members stop seeing your name and photos, notifications stop, and you're taken out of any matching still in progress. Your phone number is released, so you're free to sign up again later as a brand new member.
- Within 14 days: we permanently delete your profile, your photos, your illustrated likeness, any voice notes you recorded for the profile helper along with the conversation it had with you, and your check-in location history. The files are deleted from storage, not just detached from your profile.
- Why the short wait: if someone reports a safety problem involving you, it usually reaches us days after the fact. Holding your account for two weeks, readable by us and by nobody else, means we can still look into it. If there's an open safety matter involving your account, we may hold it longer.
- What we keep: we keep a one-way scrambled version of your phone number. It lets us recognise someone we've banned if they try to come back, and it cannot be turned back into your number.
- What stays visible: messages you sent in a group chat stay in that chat, shown as coming from a deleted member. They're part of someone else's conversation, and one person leaving shouldn't rewrite everyone else's history. Copies other members have already seen aren't something we can retract.
- When you can't: deletion is blocked while you have a reserved event or a plan coming up. Cancel or complete those first.
If you'd like it all gone sooner than 14 days, or you want a copy of your data first, email privacy@lytt.me with the phone number on your account and we'll handle it by hand. We don't hold an email address for you, so we'll text that number a code first to check the request is really yours. Full instructions are on the account deletion page.
13. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, to restrict or object to how we use it, or to withdraw consent. You can also update your profile in the app and control notifications and location in your device settings.
Email privacy@lytt.me. We may need to verify your identity first, and we'll respond within the time your law requires. If you're in Canada and unhappy with our response, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
14. Age
Lytt is for adults and is not directed to children. You must be at least 19 to use the Service. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone younger. If you believe someone underage has given us their information, email privacy@lytt.me and we'll delete it.
15. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls on our database. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security. Keeping your phone and your number secure is your part of it.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll change the "last updated" date above, and for material changes we'll give notice in the app where appropriate.
